One of the first
exhaustive documentations in Europe of this world theatre tradition,
which is of the highest artistic quality and which has remained vitally
contemporary, will occupy an area of approximately 500 square metres.
The various developmental stages and variations of the Art of Chinese
Theatre will be represented with particular reference to the musical
aspects of this genre.

Parts of the space will be staged with authentic exponents of village
square exorcism-performances, shadow-plays and stick-puppet theatre
and its expression in the numerous strands of folkoric art, theatre
and stage models from various periods of history, early performances
by dancers, acrobats and actors as well as countless magnificently
embroidered theatre costumes, head-pieces and props. The High Art
of Chinese mask make-up will be presented in the magical atmosphere
of a Chinese theatre dressing-room and a room with the the design
of a tea house will offer the visitor tea and delicacies in the ancient
Chinese style as accompaniment to the visual and accoustic feast.
The exhibition
will be on display in Munich beginning in 2002. More detailed information
